A power sliding door that does not auto-reverse can close on an occupant, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The power sliding side doors are supposed to stop and open back up if they touch something while closing. On these vans that safety feature may not kick in every time. If it doesn't, a door can keep closing on a hand, an arm, or a child getting in or out, and hurt them. The fix is a software update for the computer that runs the doors, done at the dealer.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Carnival is covered. 2. Contact a Kia dealer about recall SC266, or call Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. 3. Have the door software updated — there is no charge.

Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling all 2022 and certain 2023 Carnival vehicles. The auto-reverse feature for the power sliding doors (PSD) may not activate in all situations.
Safety risk

Remedy
Dealers will update the power sliding door control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 28, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC266.
