Serious: a stall while driving can happen in traffic and increases the risk of a crash, so get this repaired promptly even though BMW has not told owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The combined charging unit is the box that handles power for the high-voltage battery in these electric and hybrid models. On some vehicles it was not built correctly at the factory, with parts inside improperly connected or assembled. If that happens, electrical power can be interrupted while you are driving and the vehicle can stall, leaving you without power in traffic. Dealers will replace the high-voltage battery charging unit with a new one, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is part of recall 23V449000.
2. Call your BMW dealer, or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and schedule the charging unit replacement as soon as you can.
3. Have the part replaced at the dealer; it costs you nothing.

Summary
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2023 iX xDrive50, iX M60, i4 eDrive40, i4 M50, and 2023 i760 xDrive hybrid electric vehicles. The high voltage battery combined charging unit (CCU) may not have been manufactured correctly, resulting in improperly connected and/or assembled components inside the CCU.
Safety risk
An improperly connected or assembled CCU can interrupt electrical power while driving and result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the high voltage battery combined charging unit (CCU), free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 23, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
