Audi A6 and A7 may have mislabeled brake fluid cap

NHTSA campaign 23V601000 · Reported 2023-08-25 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderate: the brakes work normally unless the wrong fluid has actually been put in, but because it affects stopping ability, have the cap checked and leave brake fluid top-ups to the dealer until then.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some of these cars left the factory with the wrong label on the brake fluid reservoir cap. That cap tells whoever tops up the brakes which fluid to use, so a wrong label can lead a repair shop — or you — to pour in the wrong type. The wrong brake fluid can weaken how well the car stops. A dealer will look at the cap and replace it free of charge if it is the wrong one. Letters went out in October 2023.
