Kia Sorento: backup camera image may not show up

NHTSA campaign 23V610000 · Reported 2023-08-31 · Kia America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderately serious, since it reduces your view when reversing and raises crash risk, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The clips that hold the backup camera in place on these Sorentos can break. When that happens, the camera picture may not appear properly on your dashboard screen when you shift into reverse. Without a clear view behind the vehicle, it is easier to back into something, or someone, you cannot see. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal rear-visibility requirement. A dealer will inspect the camera housing and replace it if it needs it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Sorento is affected.
2. Contact a Kia dealer or Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall SC280.
3. Have the rearview camera housing inspected and replaced if needed, free of charge.
