Honda Civic replacement steering rack may damage a tire

NHTSA campaign 23V704000 · Reported 2023-10-19 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

high How serious is it? About this label

A tire damaged this way can fail while you drive, which could cause a crash or injury, so even though the notice does not tell owners to park the car, have it inspected soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2022-2024 Civic 4-door and 5-door cars got a new power steering rack during a service visit, and that part may have been put together wrong. When it is, a front tire can rub against the lower suspension or the tie rod end. That constant rubbing wears into the tire and can damage it. Only cars that actually received a replacement rack are affected. A Honda dealer will inspect the electric power steering rack and replace it if needed, free.
