Toyota Highlander front bumper cover can loosen or fall off

NHTSA campaign 23V720000 · Reported 2023-10-26 · Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderate — the danger is mainly to other drivers if the cover falls off in traffic, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so keep an eye on the front bumper and get it checked.

What's wrong, in plain English

The cover over the lower front bumper can work loose, or come off completely, after even a minor bump during normal driving — a curb, a parking scrape, road debris. If the cover drops off while you are moving, it becomes an obstacle in the road for drivers behind you. How the Highlander drives, steers, and stops is not affected. Dealers will repair or replace the upper and lower front bumper covers as needed, at no cost. Letters were mailed in April 2024.
