Ford Mustang low brake fluid warning light may not work

NHTSA campaign 23V727000 · Reported 2023-10-27 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because weak brakes can cause a crash and you may get no warning; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but have it done soon and watch how your brakes feel.

What's wrong, in plain English

Your Ford Mustang is supposed to light up a warning on the dash when the brake fluid gets low. On these cars that warning light may never come on, even when the fluid really is low. So you could keep driving for a long time without knowing there is a problem. Low brake fluid means the brakes do not work as well as they should, and the car may take longer to stop.

What you should do

2. Contact your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, to book the software update.
3. The dealer will reprogram the module so the warning light works, at no cost to you.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Mustang vehicles. The brake fluid level sensor may not activate the visual warning indicator when the brake fluid is low. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
Safety risk
Without a low brake fluid warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.
