Hyundai IONIQ 6 may lose power from loose bolts

NHTSA campaign 24V283000 · Reported 2024-04-19 · Hyundai Motor America

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — a sudden loss of power or a locked-up drive unit can cause a crash; the notice does not tell owners to park the car, but treat this as an urgent repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

The bolts holding the gears together in the unit that sends power to the wheels may not have been tightened properly on some 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 vehicles. If those bolts work loose, the car can suddenly lose drive power and stop pulling, or the gears can seize and lock up. Either one can happen while you are moving, including at highway speed, and can leave you unable to keep up with traffic or move out of the way.
