What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2023 Ariya electric SUVs have rubber seals, called O-rings, inside the front electric drive motor that may have been damaged when the motor was put together. Damaged seals can let oil leak inside the motor. That internal leak can cause the vehicle to unexpectedly lose drive power, meaning the car could stop pulling while you are driving. Nissan dealers will replace the entire front traction motor assembly at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Ariya is included. 2. Contact your Nissan dealer to schedule the motor replacement, or call Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 (recall number R24A3). 3. The new front traction motor is installed free of charge.

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Ariya vehicles. O-rings inside the electric front traction motor may have been damaged during assembly, which can result in an internal oil leak and an unexpected loss of drive power.
Safety risk: An unexpected loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front traction motor assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R24A3.
