Suddenly losing drive power in traffic can cause a crash, and although the notice does not tell owners to park the car, you should get the update done promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The Ariya's inverter is the part that sends power from the battery to the electric motor. Its software may read a problem that is not really there. When that happens, the system can shut itself down and the car loses drive power, so it stops pulling and you cannot accelerate. This can happen while you are driving, including in traffic. The fix is a software update, so the dealer checks the version and reloads it if needed.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your 2023 Ariya is covered by recall 24V560000.
2. Contact a Nissan dealer, or call Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, and mention recall R24A8.
3. Have the dealer check and update the inverter software — it is free.

Safety risk
An unexpected loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the vehicle's inverter software version and update the software, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 12, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R24A8.
