Weaker brakes combined with a car that keeps accelerating on its own is a serious crash risk; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but you must not use the left-foot braking or N e-shift features until the update is installed.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2025 IONIQ 5 "N" vehicles with the left-foot braking and N e-shift features have a software problem. When left-foot braking is turned on, the brakes may not work as well as they should. Also, with N e-shift engaged, the vehicle may keep speeding up even after you take your foot off the accelerator. Hyundai says not to use either feature until the fix is done. The braking and vehicle control software will be updated over the air or at a dealer.

What you should do

1. Stop using the left-foot braking and N e-shift features right now. 2. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and accept the over-the-air update or call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall 277) to book a dealer visit. 3. Get the new software even if your car was already fixed under the earlier recall 25V-065 — it is free.

Summary
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 "N" vehicles equipped with left-foot braking (LFB) and N e-shift features. The integrated electronic brake (IEB) and vehicle control unit (VCU) software may cause reduced braking performance when LFB is activated. Additionally, the vehicle may continue to accelerate after the pedal is released and the vehicle's N e-shift feature is engaged.
Safety risk
Reduced braking performance and unexpected, continued acceleration increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to use the LFB or N e-Shift features until the remedy has been performed. The IEB and VCU software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 25, 2025. This recall replaces NHTSA recall number 25V-065. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall will need to have the new remedy completed. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 277. (over-the-air software update)
