Ford Mustang tail and marker lights may stop working

NHTSA campaign 25V546000 · Reported 2025-08-22 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

Serious enough that other drivers may not see you in the dark, though the notice does not tell you to stop driving the car.

What's wrong, in plain English

Water can get inside the small computer that runs your Mustang's outside lights. When that happens, the computer loses touch with some of the lights — the license plate light, the side marker lights, and the tail lights — and they may stop coming on. Other drivers behind you may not see your car at night or in bad weather. A dealer will seal the body seams and replace the computer if it has corroded.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Mustang is included.
2. Call your Ford dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 25C43) and schedule the inspection.
3. Have the seams sealed and the module replaced if needed — the repair is free.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Mustang, and Mustang GTD vehicles. Water may enter the body control module and cause a loss of communication with the exterior lighting, including the license plate light, side marker, and tail lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Safety risk
License plate, side marker, and tail lights that fail to illuminate as intended can reduce visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and seal the body seams as necessary. Dealers will also inspect the body control module for corrosion and replace it, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 10, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C43.

Verify your specific vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov. Recall repairs are free of charge by law.
