A rear door opening unexpectedly while you are driving could badly injure someone, especially a passenger in back; Toyota has not told owners to stop driving, but this one is worth scheduling promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Water can get into the switch inside a rear door and cause a short circuit. If that happens, an unlocked rear door can pop open on its own, including while the car is moving. The dealer will change the wiring for the rear door switches at no cost. This recall replaces an earlier one, so even if your car was already fixed under the older recall, it needs the new repair done.

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, even if you already had recall 24V274 done.
2. Contact a Toyota dealer about recall 26TB03 or 26TA03, or call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
3. Have the rear door switch circuits modified — the repair is free.

Summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Prius Prime, 2023-2026 Prius, and 2025-2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. Water may enter the rear door switch and cause a short circuit, allowing an unlocked rear door to open unexpectedly.
Safety risk
A door that unexpectedly opens while the vehicle is moving increases the risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will modify the rear door switch circuits, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed July 13, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TB03 and 26TA03. This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recall number 24V274. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall will need to have the new remedy performed.
