A sensor under the front passenger seat measures the weight of whoever is sitting there so the car knows how to use the airbags. That sensor can crack and short out. If it does, the airbags can go off in an unintended way during a crash, which can hurt the people inside. This recall covers a long list of Honda and Acura models and expands an earlier recall. Dealers will put in new seat weight sensors.
The computer settings for the RDX's electric power steering may not be set correctly. When that happens, the steering system can switch itself into a protective backup mode and stop helping you turn the wheel. The car still steers, but it takes much more muscle to turn, which can be a dangerous surprise while you are driving. Honda dealers will reload the correct steering software. It is a free reprogramming, and no parts have to be replaced.
The steering gearbox on these vehicles may not have been tightened properly when it was put together. A gearbox that is not tight lets water get inside, and the water causes rust. Rusted gears can start to bind, which means the steering may feel stiff or may not respond the way it should while you are driving. Honda dealers will replace the entire electric power steering rack on affected vehicles, free of charge to the owner.
There is a sensor in the front passenger seat that senses the weight of whoever is sitting there. When it does, the engine can stall while you are driving — losing power in traffic or on the highway raises the chance of a crash. A dealer will replace the entire fuel pump unit for free. This recall is an expansion of two earlier Honda fuel pump recalls covering additional vehicles.
These cars have a part that helps control braking and stability. A small valve inside it can leak brake fluid. When that happens, the car may creep or roll on its own while the automatic brake hold feature is holding it still, or the brake pedal may sink farther down than normal before the brakes bite. Either one makes a crash or injury more likely. Dealers will replace the whole unit at no cost.
Because of a manufacturing problem, part of the front seat belt buckle can press against the release button. When that happens, the metal tongue will not click in and stay locked, so the belt may not fasten at all. A seat belt that is not latched cannot hold you in place in a crash. Honda dealers will replace the driver and front passenger buckle release buttons, or the whole buckle, free of charge. Letters were mailed April 18, 2023.
A part inside the left or right front driveshaft — the shaft that sends power from the engine to a front wheel — may not have been heat-treated correctly, so it can break. If it breaks while you are driving, the vehicle can suddenly lose power. A broken driveshaft can also let the vehicle roll away after you park if the parking brake is not set. A dealer will replace the affected front driveshaft at no cost.
The pump that pushes gasoline out of the fuel tank toward the engine sits inside the tank, and on these Honda and Acura vehicles it can stop working. When it fails, the engine can stall, meaning it shuts off while you are driving, and that can happen at any speed. Your dealer will replace the whole fuel pump assembly at no cost to you. This recall is a larger version of an earlier Honda recall, 20V-314.
The low-pressure fuel pump sits inside the gas tank and pushes fuel toward the engine. On these Honda and Acura vehicles, that pump can quit working. If it does, the engine can stall — shut off — while you are driving, which can leave you stopped in traffic or unable to keep up with the cars around you. Dealers replace the entire fuel pump assembly at no charge, and this repair has been available since July 2020.
