Tesla structure recalls: Cybertruck trim, light bar, imported vehicles
This group splits two ways. Two recalls are Cybertruck exterior parts that were glued on and can come off: the 2024 trunk bed trim sail applique, which may have been improperly adhered, and the light bar on 2024-2025 trucks, which can delaminate and detach. In both, the danger is to whoever is behind you, not to people inside the truck. The third is unlike anything else here — certain 2026 Model Y and 2024 Model 3 vehicles originally built for a foreign market and now registered in the United States. They lack knee air bags, may be missing certain interior safety countermeasures, and may not have been tested for bumper impact resistance. Tesla's answer is to buy those cars back.
Warning signs to watch for
- Cybertruck bed trim lifting at an edge, or an applique already missing from the truck
- The Cybertruck light bar separating from the body, with visible gaps where it should be bonded
- A panel found in the road, or drivers behind you reporting debris off your truck
- On the imported Model 3 and Model Y there is nothing to notice while driving — the missing knee air bags and interior countermeasures only show up on paper or inspection
Is it safe to keep driving?
No recall in this group tells you to stop driving or park outside. For the two Cybertruck recalls the notices are clear that nothing threatens people inside the truck; the risk is trim or the light bar coming off and causing a crash for traffic behind you, so get the part secured or replaced soon. The imported Model 3 and Model Y also carry no do-not-drive order, and nothing is expected to fail while driving — but you have less crash protection than a U.S. vehicle until Tesla repurchases it.
What the free repair involves
For the bed trim, Tesla service applies adhesion promoter and pressure sensitive tape, or replaces a missing applique. For the light bar, it replaces the cant rail assembly. The foreign-market Model 3 and Model Y get no repair at all — Tesla will repurchase noncompliant vehicles currently registered in the United States. Every one of these remedies is free of charge.

My Cybertruck's bed trim already came off — is that still covered?
Yes. The remedy explicitly includes replacing a missing applique, alongside applying adhesion promoter and pressure sensitive tape to secure one that is loose. Tesla covers the work free of charge; owner letters for that recall were mailed August 18, 2024.
What does repurchase mean for the imported Model 3 and Model Y?
