Tesla Cybertruck bed trim can come loose and fly off

NHTSA campaign 24V457000 · Reported 2024-06-19 · Tesla, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

A loose applique can detach from the vehicle, creating a road hazard for following motorists and increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

A decorative trim piece along the edge of the truck bed may not have been glued on properly at the factory. Over time it can work loose and come off while you are driving. A piece of trim lying in the road, or flying off at speed, is dangerous for the drivers behind you and can cause a crash. Tesla will add adhesive and pressure-sensitive tape to hold it down, or replace the piece if it is already missing, at no cost.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is affected.
2. Request service in the Tesla app or call 1-877-798-3752, quoting SB-24-12-006.
3. Have the trim re-secured or replaced free of charge.
