The Nexo runs on hydrogen. A safety part on the hydrogen tank, meant to release pressure if the tank gets too hot, can break. If it breaks, hydrogen gas can leak out, and that leaking gas can catch fire while the car is parked. Hyundai dealers will replace that part for free. Hyundai mailed a first warning letter in November 2024, with letters telling owners the repair is ready starting in January 2025.
⚠ NHTSA advises: park outside and away from structures (fire risk).
The Nexo runs on hydrogen gas instead of gasoline. It has sensors whose whole job is to notice if that gas starts leaking out of the system that carries it to the engine. On these vehicles, those sensors may not catch a leak. If hydrogen escapes without being detected, it raises the chance of a fire, either while you are driving or while the vehicle is parked. The dealer replaces the leak sensors with new ones at no cost.

The Nexo runs on hydrogen. A small filter sits in the port where you fill the car with fuel. On some 2019 Nexos, that filter can come loose after refueling, and hydrogen can leak out of the fill port. Hydrogen catches fire easily, so a leak near a spark or flame could start a fire. Hyundai will replace the whole fill port part at no cost to you.

The electronic brake system can misread a sensor signal and cut back how much stopping power the brakes provide. If that happens, the car takes longer to stop than the driver expects, which can lead to a crash. This affects certain 2019-2020 Nexo fuel cell cars and 2019-2021 Kona Electric cars. A dealer updates the brake system software free of charge, and the repair has been available since January 2021.

These cars have a feature that lets you park them using the key fob while you stand outside. The software that controls it is faulty. If the remote parking system develops a problem, the software may not stop the car from moving as it should. That means the vehicle could move when you did not intend it to. A dealer will reload corrected software into the system, which fixes the problem without replacing any parts.
