RAM ProMaster City sticker lists wrong seating capacity

NHTSA campaign 18V129000 · Reported 2018-02-22 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

low How serious is it? About this label

If the tire placard indicates an incorrect seating capacity, the operator may overload the vehicle, which can cause tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Every vehicle carries a small sticker called the tire placard that lists tire pressures and how many people the vehicle is built to carry. On some 2018 ProMaster City vans that sticker shows the wrong number of occupants, so it does not meet the federal rule. If you go by it, you could put more weight in the van than the tires are rated for, and an overloaded tire can fail. Dealers will fit a corrected sticker free.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether your van is included.
2. Contact your Chrysler/RAM dealer or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall U17.
3. Have the corrected tire placard installed free of charge, and until then avoid carrying more people or cargo than the van is rated for.
