Ram ProMaster seat belts may not hold child seats

NHTSA campaign 21V699000 · Reported 2021-09-09 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

A child seat that is not held tightly can let a child be badly hurt in a crash; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but get this fixed before relying on a child seat.

What's wrong, in plain English

Seat belts have a locking mode you use to hold a child safety seat tightly in place. In these vans, that locking feature may switch off too early, so the belt does not stay locked and the child seat may not be held securely. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal rule on protecting people in a crash. A dealer will inspect the seat belt retractors, the parts that wind the belt up, and replace them if needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your van is included. 2. Contact your Ram dealer, or FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall Y61), to schedule the inspection. 3. Have any needed retractors replaced free of charge.
