Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM may not stay in Park

NHTSA campaign 18V280000 · Reported 2018-05-01 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because the vehicle can move when you expect it to be parked; the notice does not say to stop driving, but get the free repair done promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The wrong part may have been installed inside the automatic transmission. It is a rod that locks the transmission when you move the shifter into Park. If the wrong rod is in there, the transmission may not actually lock, so the vehicle can roll on its own after you think you have parked it. That could hurt someone standing nearby or cause a crash. A dealer installs the correct rod for free.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is affected. 2. Contact your dealer, or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall U43), to schedule the work. 3. Have the correct park lock rod installed — there is no charge.
