Dodge Journey and Ram backup camera image may vanish

NHTSA campaign 18V398000 · Reported 2018-06-14 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

This is a moderate problem because losing the camera view while reversing raises the chance of a crash, and the notice does not say to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Chrysler is recalling certain 2018 Dodge Journey and Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The backup camera picture can disappear from the screen while you are reversing, which means you could be backing up with no view of what is behind you. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal rule for rear visibility. Dealers will replace the rearview mirror free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered by recall U56.
2. Contact your dealer, or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, to schedule the repair.
3. Have the rearview mirror replaced at no cost, and use your mirrors and look over your shoulder when backing up until then.
