Toyota Tundra weight capacity label lists wrong number

NHTSA campaign 18V711000 · Reported 2018-10-11 · Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

low How serious is it? About this label

Since the incorrect label is not within 1% of the additional weight, the vehicles are not compliant with the FMVSS. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

There is a sticker in these 2018-2019 Tundras that tells you how much extra weight you can carry after accessories were added. Because the all-weather floor mats were accidentally counted twice, the sticker claims 10 pounds more capacity than the truck actually has. Nothing on the truck itself is broken or worn out; only the printed number is wrong, and that makes the label fall short of federal labeling rules. Toyota is mailing every owner a corrected sticker.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is on the list.
2. Watch for the corrected label Toyota is mailing to you, and stick it over the old one.
3. If it does not arrive, call Toyota at 1-888-270-9371 (recall J0Z); there is no charge.
