Toyota Tundra load capacity label shows wrong weight limit

NHTSA campaign 18V900000 · Reported 2018-12-19 · Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderate — the truck itself is not defective and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but going by the wrong number can leave you overloaded and at greater risk of a crash.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2019 Toyota Tundra trucks with a spray-in bed liner got a sticker showing the wrong maximum load. The number was calculated incorrectly, so the label says the truck can carry more weight in people and cargo than it actually should. If you load up to the amount on that sticker, the truck ends up carrying more than it is built for, and an overloaded truck is more likely to be in a crash. Toyota mailed owners a corrected label to replace the wrong one.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Tundra is covered. 2. Until you have the corrected label, avoid loading the truck near the limit printed on the old sticker. 3. Contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 (recall J08) if you did not receive the free replacement label.
