Lincoln Nautilus lane assist may miss hands-off driver

NHTSA campaign 19V031000 · Reported 2019-01-14 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderate: the car drives normally, but if you rely on the lane system without your hands on the wheel, your inattention can raise the risk of a crash — keep your hands on the wheel until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

This vehicle has a system that helps keep the car centered in its lane. It is supposed to notice when you take your hands off the wheel for too long and then stop helping. On these cars it may not notice, so it can keep steering for you while you are not paying attention to the road. Ford's fix is new software for the power steering computer, loaded by the dealer at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Nautilus is included. 2. Call your Lincoln dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and ask for recall 19S02. 3. Have the steering software updated — the repair is free.
