A computer module that handles the camera images can restart itself over and over without warning. When it does, you lose the backup camera picture on your screen, along with driver-assist features: the pre-collision system, lane-keeping help, and blind-spot monitoring. Those features may not be working when you expect them, which makes it harder to spot a hazard around you. The fix is a free software update, done either at the dealer or sent to the vehicle over the air.

A valve that routes some exhaust back into the engine can fail. When it does, the vehicle can suddenly lose the power that drives the wheels while you are on the road. The small driver modules that run the LED headlights can contain a burnt diode. When that happens, the affected headlight can lose its low beam, high beam, daytime running light, front position light and front turn signal. On the Nautilus, the tail light, rear turn signal and rear position light on that side can go out as well. That means the vehicles do not meet the federal rule for lamps. Dealers inspect and replace the modules free.

A software error affects the backup camera. The screen may show a blank image when you shift into reverse, so you cannot see what is behind the vehicle. These vehicles have an engine block heater, a device that warms the engine in cold weather while the car is plugged into an outlet. On the recalled vehicles, that heater can get too hot while the car sits plugged in, and the heat can start a fire. Ford will replace the heating element and check the cord, replacing it if needed. You can instead ask to have the heater element taken out, the opening plugged, and the cord removed.

A software problem in the multimedia system can make the big center screen and the display in front of the driver restart on their own and go blank. When that happens, you lose the speedometer and your warning lights, and the backup camera picture won't show when you shift into reverse. Ford dealers can update the software, or the fix can be sent to the vehicle as an over-the-air update, at no charge.
A software error in the module that runs the screen can make the backup camera image lag, freeze, or not appear at all when you put the vehicle in reverse. You could back into something or someone you cannot see. The fix is a software update to that module, done free at a dealer or, on some vehicles, sent to the vehicle over the air. Ford is doing this in phases, so timing depends on your model and year.

When you close the windows using the one-touch global closing feature, a window may not automatically stop and go back down after it senses something in the way. These vehicles do not meet the federal safety rule for power window systems. A dealer will reinstall updated software for the driver's door and passenger door control units.

Some 2021-2022 Ford and Lincoln models with the 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoost engine can have an intake valve break while you are driving. Those valves let air into the engine, and if one snaps, the engine can fail and stop making power. That means you could suddenly lose the ability to accelerate or hold speed in traffic. Dealers run a test on the engine and, if it fails the test, replace the whole engine at no charge.

The rear shock absorbers on these SUVs may have been built incorrectly. A badly made shock can damage nearby parts, including the rubber hose that carries brake fluid to a rear wheel, the axle shaft, a wheel speed sensor, and the suspension links. If that brake hose gets damaged, your vehicle can take longer than normal to stop. Ford dealers will inspect these parts and replace the shocks, brake hoses, sensor, or axle shafts as needed at no cost.

The strap on the back of a child safety seat hooks onto an anchor built into the seat back. On the left-side second-row seat in these vehicles, the welds holding that anchor may be too weak. In a crash, the anchor could give way and the child seat would not hold the child as securely as it should. The dealer replaces that entire seat back frame at no charge.

The rear axle unit on these vehicles may not have enough oil inside it. Running low on that lubricant can make the rear drive unit lock up. If it locks up while you are driving, the vehicle can lose power to the wheels and become hard to control. Bolts on a part of the transmission tied to the automatic start/stop feature may be loose or missing entirely. That lets transmission fluid leak out. As the fluid drains away the transmission can stop working, and if leaking fluid reaches a hot enough source it can start a fire. Ford is replacing that part on affected vehicles. A dealer will fit a new start/stop accumulator free of charge, and this repair is not one to put off.

These vehicles have 16-way power seats that tilt. The edge of the seat cushion frame can rub against a bundle of wires underneath when someone uses the tilt function, and over time that can damage the wires. Those wires are connected to the airbag, so a damaged wire can make the airbag go off on its own while you are driving, or keep it from going off in a crash. Dealers will add protective tape and fix any damaged wiring.

On these Lincoln Nautilus SUVs, the plastic cover over the driver's airbag — the panel in the middle of the steering wheel — may come loose when the airbag inflates in a crash. Instead of folding open the way it should, the cover can separate and hit the driver, causing injury on top of whatever the crash itself does. Only vehicles built without adaptive front steering are included. The dealer replaces the whole driver airbag unit.
