The airbag still works in normal driving, but it may not protect the front passenger properly in a crash, so get this fixed soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2019 Audi Q5 and SQ5 vehicles, a metal frame behind the dashboard was not welded correctly at the factory. In a crash where the front passenger airbag goes off, that frame can break. If it breaks, it can damage the passenger airbag as it inflates. A damaged airbag may not cushion the person in the front passenger seat the way it should, so they could be hurt worse in a crash. Dealers replace the dashboard and the airbag.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is part of recall 19V473000.
2. Call your Audi dealer, or Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-253-2834, and give recall number 90N1.
3. Have the instrument panel and passenger airbag replaced — the repair is free.

Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2019 Audi Q5 and SQ5 vehicles. In the event of a crash deploying the passenger's frontal air bag, the instrument panel carrier may break due to incorrect welding. If the carrier breaks, there may be damage to the passenger frontal air bag.
Safety risk
A damaged frontal air bag may not provide adequate protection, increasing the risk of an injury.
Remedy
Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the instrument panel and the passenger frontal air bag, free of charge. The recall began August 16, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 90N1.
