Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X rear brake caliper may crack

NHTSA campaign 19V909000 · Reported 2019-12-19 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious, because reduced braking raises the risk of a crash; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but get the inspection done promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2020 Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X vehicles may have a cracked brake part at the right rear wheel. The caliper is the clamp that squeezes the brake pads against the wheel to slow the car down, and on these vehicles it may have been damaged when it was made. A cracked caliper can fail, and if it does, the vehicle takes longer to stop. Dealers will inspect the right rear caliper and replace it if there is a problem.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Renegade or 500X is affected. 2. Contact your dealer or Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall VE8) to schedule the brake inspection. 3. Have the right rear caliper replaced if needed — free of charge.
