Jeep Renegade may have wrong reverse light assembly

NHTSA campaign 24V918000 · Reported 2024-12-10 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

This is a lower-level problem than a mechanical failure, but weaker reverse lights can lead to a crash while backing up; the notice does not restrict driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The wrong reverse light assembly may have been installed in the rear bumper at the factory, so these vehicles do not meet the federal rules for lamps and reflectors. The result is that the backup lights may not light up the area behind the vehicle as well as they should. They also may not be noticeable enough to warn people walking behind you, or other drivers, that your Renegade is about to back up.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your Renegade is affected.
2. Contact your Jeep dealer or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall D7B) for an inspection.
3. The dealer will inspect and, if needed, replace the bumper reverse light assembly at no cost.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Jeep Renegade vehicles. The incorrect bumper reverse light assembly may have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Safety risk
The incorrect reverse lights may have reduced visibility, and not alert pedestrians and other drivers that the vehicle is backing up, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the bumper reverse light assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 30, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is D7B.
