Jeep Renegade software may switch off crash safety features

NHTSA campaign 19V287000 · Reported 2019-04-10 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious, because you would only find out the protection was missing during a crash; the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle, but the software should be updated quickly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The computer that controls the airbags and other crash protection has the wrong software loaded. Because of that, it may switch off some of the safety features meant to protect people in a crash, so they may not work when they are needed. The same problem affects certain Fiat 500X models. Dealers will load the correct software into that control computer, and the work is free of charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm recall V42 applies. 2. Make an appointment with a Jeep or Fiat dealer for the software update. 3. Call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 with questions — there is no charge.
