Audi Q7 side curtain airbags may not inflate properly

NHTSA campaign 20V093000 · Reported 2020-02-19 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

This is serious because an airbag that does not inflate correctly leaves you with less protection and a higher risk of injury in a crash, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2019 Audi Q7 SUVs have a problem with the side curtain airbags — the airbags that drop down from above the side windows to protect people's heads in a crash. In a crash, these airbags may not fill with air the way they are supposed to. That means the protection you expect in a side impact or rollover may not be there. Audi dealers will replace the side curtain airbags on affected vehicles.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your 2019 Q7 is affected.
2. Contact your Audi dealer to schedule the repair, or call Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 and reference recall 69AJ.
3. Have the dealer replace the side curtain airbags — the repair is free of charge.
