Chevrolet Bolt EV rear door can open on its own
high How serious is it? About this label
The notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but a rear door opening while the car is moving — or a door that won't open from inside — is a serious injury risk for back-seat passengers, especially children.
What's wrong, in plain English
Inside the rear doors of these Chevrolet Bolt EVs, the cable that runs from the inside door handle to the latch may be too long. When the rear window is opened, the glass can rub against that cable and damage it. A damaged cable can cause a rear door to pop open on its own when the window is opened, or leave the inside handle unable to open the door at all. Dealers replace the rear door handle cables.
What you should do
2. Schedule the repair with a Chevrolet dealer under recall A202298320, or call 1-800-222-1020.
3. Until it is fixed, keep the rear windows closed and the child safety locks on; the repair is free.
