Chevy Bolt battery software fix may not have installed
critical How serious is it? About this label
A battery fire is serious, but GM does not tell you to stop driving — you can keep driving as long as you follow the charging limits and park outside after every charge.
⚠ Park outside, away from buildings — fire risk. See all such recalls.
What's wrong, in plain English
Your Bolt was already fixed under an earlier battery recall, when a dealer added software that watches the battery and spots a bad battery module. On these cars that software may not have installed properly, so a defective module could go undetected and the battery could catch fire. Until a dealer reloads the software, GM says to charge only to 90%, charge more often, don't drop below 70 miles of range, park outside after charging, and never charge indoors overnight.
What you should do
2. Follow the interim steps now: 90% charge limit, charge often, stay above 70 miles of range, park outside after charging, no indoor overnight charging.
3. Book the free software reinstall with a Chevrolet dealer, or call the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389.
