Chevy Bolt battery software may have failed to install
critical How serious is it? About this label
A battery fire is a serious injury risk, but GM does not tell owners to stop driving — keep driving only while following the charging limits and parking outside after charging.
⚠ Park outside, away from buildings — fire risk. See all such recalls.
What's wrong, in plain English
Your Bolt had a repair under an earlier battery recall that included loading special monitoring software onto the car. On these vehicles that installation failed. Without the software working, the high-voltage battery can catch fire when it is charged to full or nearly full. A dealer will load it again for free. Until then, cap charging at 90%, charge more often, stay above 70 miles of range, park outside after charging, and don't charge indoors overnight.
What you should do
2. Start the interim steps immediately: 90% charge limit, charge often, stay above 70 miles of range, park outside after charging, never charge indoors overnight.
3. Schedule the free software reinstall at a Chevrolet dealer, or call the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389.
