Ram ProMaster paratransit shifter cable may separate from transmission

NHTSA campaign 20V582000 · Reported 2020-10-15 · Prime-Time Specialty Vehicles

high How serious is it? About this label

Not knowing what gear the vehicle is really in can lead to unexpected movement and a crash, so have it repaired promptly, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2014-2019 Prime-Time paratransit vehicles with 3.6L engines, the cable that connects the gear shifter to the transmission can come apart. When that happens, the transmission does not go into the gear you selected, and the shift lever can show one gear while the vehicle is actually in another. You might think you are in park when you are not, and the vehicle could move when you do not expect it to.

What you should do

2. Contact Prime-Time customer service at 1-574-293-9191, or your Ram dealer, to arrange the repair.
3. Take the vehicle to a Ram dealer for the fix, which is done free of charge.
