Mercedes Sprinter vans: loose fuel line clamps can leak

NHTSA campaign 20V595000 · Reported 2020-09-29 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

critical How serious is it? About this label

Serious, because a fuel leak can lead to a fire, so get it fixed promptly; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving or to park outside.

What's wrong, in plain English

The clamps that hold the fuel lines in place on these 2019-2020 Sprinter vans can work themselves loose over time. If a clamp loosens, gasoline can leak out of the line. Leaking fuel around a hot engine is what makes this dangerous, because it can catch fire. Mercedes sent owners an early warning letter in November 2020, and the actual repair became available in January 2021. A dealer will check every fuel hose clamp and tighten or replace parts as needed.

What you should do

2. Call a Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer, or Daimler Vans USA at 1-877-762-8267, and give them recall number VS3SCHELLE.
3. Have the dealer check and fix the fuel hose clamps; the repair is free.
