Mercedes-Benz Sprinter driveshaft mount can loosen

NHTSA campaign 23V874000 · Reported 2023-12-21 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — loss of control raises crash risk and a damaged fuel tank could cause a fire, so get it inspected as soon as possible; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2020 Sprinter vans, the connection between the driveshaft bearing and the crossmember that holds it can work loose. The driveshaft is the spinning bar under the van that sends power to the rear wheels. If that mount loosens, the van can become harder to control. In a crash, the loose driveshaft could also hit and puncture the fuel tank, letting fuel leak out and raising the chance of a fire.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your van is included. 2. Call your Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer or Daimler Vans USA at 1-877-762-8267 (recall VS3QUERTR) to book an appointment. 3. Have the dealer inspect and, if needed, replace the crossmember — the repair is free.
