Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dashboard display may go completely blank

NHTSA campaign 23V204000 · Reported 2023-03-24 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

Serious but not urgent enough to stop driving — the notice does not tell you to park the van, though driving with no speedometer or warning lights raises your crash risk, so get it done soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

When you start the van, the display behind the steering wheel — the one with the speedometer, fuel gauge and warning lights — may come up completely blank. The problem is in the software that runs that display. With a blank panel you cannot see how fast you are going, how much fuel is left, or any warning message the van is trying to show you. A dealer reloads the instrument display software, and the repair costs you nothing.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your van is included.
2. Call a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer, or Daimler Vans USA customer service at 1-877-762-8267, and ask for recall VS3KOMBAUS.
3. Schedule the software update — the repair is free.
