NHTSA campaign 21E103000 · Reported 2021-12-23 · Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

critical How serious is it? About this label

Serious — losing power steering assist can happen suddenly and raises the risk of a crash, so get it inspected promptly even though the notice does not tell you to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

This recall covers replacement power steering gear assemblies that were sold and installed on Tundra and Sequoia trucks and SUVs. Some of these parts were built wrong and can leak power steering fluid. If enough fluid leaks out, the steering can suddenly become very heavy and hard to turn while you are driving. Toyota dealers will inspect the part and put in a new steering gear at no charge to you.
