Audi A6 and A7 passenger airbag may not deploy right

NHTSA campaign 21V159000 · Reported 2021-03-10 · Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

An incorrectly manufactured air bag may not deploy properly, and could also eject plastic debris into the passenger compartment, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The passenger airbag has a built-in seam, a thin line in the cover that is supposed to split open cleanly when the bag inflates. On these Audis that seam may have been made wrong. In a crash the airbag might not open the way it should, and it could throw bits of plastic into the cabin at the person sitting there. A dealer will look at the airbag and fix it if needed.
