Suddenly losing power while driving raises the risk of a crash; the notice does not tell you to stop driving, but schedule the free reprogramming right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

The software that watches over the Taycan's electric drive system can mistakenly think something has gone wrong. When that happens, it shuts the drive system down and the car loses power while you are driving. Nothing is actually broken — the software is reading a fault that is not there — but you can still be left without power on the road, which can lead to a crash. A dealer will reprogram the power electronics and the control unit to correct it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether your Taycan is covered.
2. Contact your Porsche dealer or Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243, recall number AMB5.
3. Have the dealer reprogram the software — it is free of charge.

Summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Taycan Turbo, Taycan Turbo S, Taycan 4S, 2021 Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo, Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, and Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo vehicles. The monitoring software can incorrectly detect a fault and shutdown the power train, causing a loss of motive power.
Safety risk
A loss of motive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the power electronics and the engine control unit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 30, 2021. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is AMB5.
