Porsche Taycan software makes parking lights fail with turn signals

Incorrect headlight control module software may cause the parking lights not to operate as intended when the turn signals are activated, which can reduce vehicle visibility and increase the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The wrong software was loaded into the module that controls the headlights. Because of it, the parking lights may not work the way they should when you switch on a turn signal, so other drivers may have a harder time seeing your car. That does not meet the federal rule for lights on vehicles. A dealer can fix it by loading the correct software into the headlight control unit; no parts are needed, and the update is free.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Taycan falls under recall ARB4.
2. Schedule the software update with a Porsche dealer, or call Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
3. Bring the car in for the free reprogramming; it does not require any new parts.

Summary: Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2024 Taycan vehicles. The incorrect headlight control module software may have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Safety risk: Incorrect headlight control module software may cause the parking lights not to operate as intended when the turn signals are activated, which can reduce vehicle visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the headlight control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is ARB4.
