Chevrolet Bolt driver airbag fastener may be missing

NHTSA campaign 21V517000 · Reported 2021-07-08 · General Motors, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious because it affects the airbag directly in front of the driver, though only in a crash; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so drive on and book the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

The driver's airbag sits in the center of the steering wheel and is held in place by two fasteners. On these cars one of those two may be missing altogether or not tightened enough. An airbag that is not held down properly may not inflate the way it should if you are in a crash. A dealer checks the fasteners and tightens or replaces them, and if they still cannot be tightened correctly, the whole airbag unit is replaced.
