Ford Transit Connect seat belt may not hold child seat

NHTSA campaign 21V592000 · Reported 2021-07-30 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2021-2022 Transit and 2021 Transit Connect vans, the front passenger seat belt has a locking feature that clamps the belt tight so a child seat stays put. That lock can switch off too early, so a child seat strapped into that seat may not be held firmly. A dealer will inspect the seat belt and replace it if needed, free of charge. Ford mailed owner letters on December 30, 2021.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your van is affected. 2. Contact your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (recall 21C18), to schedule the inspection. 3. Have the seat belt inspected and replaced if needed — it is free.
