Mercedes-Benz Metris brake fluid tank can come loose

NHTSA campaign 22V066000 · Reported 2022-02-08 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — losing brake fluid means losing braking power and can lead to a crash, so get the van inspected promptly even though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2016-2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans, the tank that holds the brake fluid may not have been mounted correctly. If the mounting is wrong, the tank can work loose and detach from where it belongs. Brake fluid can then leak out, and without enough fluid the brakes may not work the way they should when you press the pedal. Dealers will inspect how the tank is mounted and repair it if needed.
