Mercedes-Benz Metris backup camera image can freeze onscreen

NHTSA campaign 22V099000 · Reported 2022-02-22 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

This raises the risk of backing into someone or something, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so you can keep driving as long as you turn around and check your mirrors instead of trusting the screen.

What's wrong, in plain English

A defective memory chip in the backup camera on some 2015-2018 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans can make the picture on your screen freeze. When that happens, the screen shows an old still image instead of what is actually behind you right now, so a person, a child, or another car could be there and you would not see it. The dealer replaces the camera at no charge to you.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your van is covered.
2. Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer, or Daimler Vans USA at 1-877-762-8267 (recall VS2RU54KAM), to schedule the camera replacement.
3. Get the free camera replacement, and until then back up using mirrors and by looking over your shoulder.
