What's wrong, in plain English

These 2022 Tundras have the all-around camera system. In cold weather, a software glitch in the parking computer can stop the backup camera picture from reaching your screen. When you shift into reverse, you may see nothing at all. Without that view you cannot spot a child, a pet, or an object right behind the truck, which makes backing into something more likely. Dealers will reload the software; no parts need replacing.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether your Tundra is included.
2. Contact your Toyota dealer or Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 (recall 22TA04).
3. Have the parking assist software reprogrammed — there is no charge.

Summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Tundra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. The parking assist electronic control unit (ECU) software may prevent transmission of the rearview camera signal during cold weather, preventing the rearview image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the parking assist ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 2, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA04.
