What's wrong, in plain English

These trucks have a camera system that shows different views of the area around the truck. Because of a programming mistake in the control unit, the screen may show the image from the front camera instead of the rear camera when you shift into reverse. That means the display may not show what is actually behind you while backing up. The fix is a software update to the parking-assist computer, done free at the dealer.

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is included. 2. Schedule the free software reprogramming at a Toyota dealer, or call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 (recall 22TA07). 3. Until then, turn around and look behind you, and use your mirrors, rather than relying on the screen when backing up.

Summary
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. Incorrect programming of the parking-assist electronic control unit (ECU) software, may cause the front camera image to appear on the multimedia display instead of the rear camera image when the shifter is placed into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the parking assist ECU, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 27, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA07.
