A seat belt that is hard to use can leave a rear passenger unprotected in a crash, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2021-2022 Nissan Rogue vehicles have rear seat belts, on both the left and right rear seats, that may not pull back in the way they should. A belt that will not retract properly can be awkward to use, and someone may end up not buckling up at all. An unbuckled passenger is far less protected in a crash. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet federal rules for occupant crash protection and seat belt assemblies. A dealer will inspect the rear belts and replace them if needed.

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Rogue vehicles. The rear seat belts for the left-hand and right-hand rear seats may not retract properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," and 209, "Seatbelt Assemblies."
Safety risk: Seat belts that do not retract properly may be difficult to operate, preventing their usage, which can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the rear seat belts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 27, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC915.
