These Rogue SUVs have the 3-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo engine. Inside the engine there is a part called the throttle body, which controls how much air the engine gets when you press the gas pedal. Your dealer updates the engine computer's software and checks the throttle body, replacing it if needed, at no cost.
Some Rogues with the small three-cylinder turbo engine can run hot enough to break down the engine oil. When that happens, the bearings inside the engine can seize and tear up the engine. The engine can quit while you are driving. In a bad case the damaged bearing punches a hole in the engine block and hot oil is thrown out, which can start a fire. The dealer reloads the engine computer software and checks the engine, and replaces it if it is already damaged.
Certain Nissan Rogue and Altima and Infiniti QX50 and QX55 models with the 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine were built with faulty engine bearings. Those bearings can wear out and destroy the engine. In a bad failure the bearing can punch a hole in the engine block, spraying hot oil that can start a fire. The dealer reprograms the engine computer at no charge to reduce the risk.
A software glitch can make the backup camera screen go blank when you shift into reverse. Instead of seeing what is behind the vehicle, you get a black display. That also breaks a federal safety rule requiring a working rear view. The problem is in the infotainment software, not the camera itself, so the fix is a software update. Many vehicles can receive it wirelessly without a trip to the dealer.
The front seat belts in some 2023 Nissan Rogues include a part that pulls the belt snug against you the instant a crash begins. Those parts may have been built incorrectly, so the driver and front passenger belts may not hold people properly in a crash. The rear brakes on some 2021 Rogues were built with a small part missing inside the brake caliper — the piece that holds a rubber seal in place. Without it, the seal can shift and brake fluid can leak out. Brake fluid is what makes the brakes work, so losing it can leave you with weak brakes and a longer stopping distance. Cars inspected under the earlier recall may still need this repair.
On some 2023 Rogues, the bolts that anchor the rear seat belts to the body may not have been tightened enough on the assembly line, and they can work loose as the miles add up. A loose anchor means a rear seat belt may not hold a passenger the way it should in a crash. Dealers will check and tighten those bolts, and add labels at each anchor point listing the correct bolt size and tightness for any future repair.
The driver's power seat may not be bolted tightly to its frame. Over time the welds holding the frame to a bracket at the back can break loose. A seat that isn't firmly attached may not hold the driver in place in a crash, so a crash that would have caused minor injuries could cause worse ones. A dealer checks the seat and replaces the seat cushion frame if needed, at no charge.
Your Rogue uses a folding "jackknife" key that flips open like a pocket knife. The key can fold shut on its own while you're driving. If it folds while it's in the ignition, bumping it with your hand or knee can shut the vehicle off in traffic. On top of that, if the vehicle shuts off, the airbags may not go off in a crash. The dealer fixes this by putting a small spacer in the key so it can't collapse.
When you restart your Nissan, the screen in the dash can get stuck restarting over and over. While that is happening, the backup camera picture does not show up, so you cannot see what is behind you when you shift into reverse. Certain 2021-2022 Nissan Rogue and 2022 Frontier, Pathfinder and Titan rental vehicles have a problem with the dashboard infotainment system. If the SiriusXM satellite radio subscription is set to "Not Subscribed," the unit can restart on its own, and while that happens the backup camera stops working. Because of this, these vehicles do not meet the federal rear-visibility rule. Without a camera picture you can see less behind you when reversing, raising the risk of a crash.
A manufacturing mistake left part of the bottom of the gas tank thinner than it should be. Rocks or other debris kicked up from the road could punch through that thin spot and let gasoline leak out, which could start a fire. The weakened tank may also not hold up the way it should in a crash. Dealers will replace the whole fuel tank, along with new seals, free of charge.
The fuel pump sends gasoline from the tank to the engine. Inside the pumps on certain 2021 Rogues, parts can wear abnormally, which makes the pump overheat and fail. If that happens, the engine stalls and the vehicle loses power while you are driving — possibly in traffic or at highway speed. A stall like that increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the entire fuel pump assembly, so the worn parts are gone for good.
In these hybrids, the bundle of electrical wires for the engine can rub against the bracket that holds the engine's computer. That contact can wear through and damage the wiring, which blows a fuse. When the fuse blows, the engine can shut off while you are driving, which means losing power and speed in traffic. The repair adds a protective cover over the wiring so the bracket can no longer damage it, and it costs you nothing.
The back seat of these Rogues has metal loops behind the seatback that a child safety seat's top strap hooks onto. On the affected vehicles those loops may have been welded to the seat frame poorly. A weak weld can give way, so a child seat anchored there may not stay put during hard braking or a crash, letting it move and the child get hurt. Dealers will check the rear seatbacks and replace any that are bad, at no cost.
On some 2021 Nissan Rogues, the rear brake calipers — the parts that squeeze the brake pads against the wheel — may be missing a small internal piece. Without it, a seal can shift and brake fluid can leak out. Losing brake fluid means your brakes may not work as well as they should, so the car could take longer to stop. The dealer inspects the rear calipers and replaces them if needed, free of charge.
Some 2021 Nissan Rogue SUVs left the factory with the wrong wheel nuts holding the wheels on. The wrong nuts can work themselves loose over time. On these Rogues, the hose that carries gasoline may not be clamped in the right spot, and the ring that locks the fuel tank in place may not be seated all the way. A loose hose can leak fuel, and leaking gasoline can catch fire. The hose can also come off completely, which would make the engine stall while you are driving. A dealer will reposition and secure the hose and the lock ring.
The backup camera and display settings can be adjusted so the rear view image no longer appears — and the system keeps that setting the next time you shift into reverse. That means the screen can stay blank when you back up and you cannot see what is behind the vehicle. Because of this, these vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility rule. A dealer will update the camera settings software for free.
