Honda Ridgeline tailgate use can kill backup camera

NHTSA campaign 22V867000 · Reported 2022-11-23 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

medium How serious is it? About this label

This is not an immediate danger and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but with no camera image your rear visibility is reduced, so back up carefully and get the wiring replaced.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline trucks, opening and closing the tailgate can break the wiring that runs to the rearview camera. Once that wire breaks, the backup camera stops working and you no longer get a picture of what is behind you when you shift into reverse. That makes it harder to see people or objects behind the truck while backing up. Dealers will replace the camera wiring at no cost to you.
